Module 1: Basic Microsoft Excel
- Course Introduction
In the course introduction, we provide guidance on how the e-learning works and outline the overall structure of the course.
- Getting Started with Excel
This unit offers a gentle introduction to Microsoft Excel. You will learn how to create a new document, save your work, and open it again. We also introduce the concept of The Ribbon and explain cell references.
- Data Exercises with Excel
In this section, we demonstrate how to enter data and use features such as copy and paste and drag and fill. You’ll also learn how to enhance the readability of your sheets using basic formatting tools.
- More Spreadsheet Concepts
We continue exploring key Excel concepts, including basic cell calculations and cell references. This unit also covers how to copy formulae and introduces a handy tool called 'Autosum.'
- Tables and Graphs
This unit focuses on creating formatted tables and using useful Excel features such as filtering, sorting, and generating graphs to visualise data effectively.
- Preparing and Publishing a Document
In this final unit, we look at preparing your document for printing and demonstrate how to produce a finished copy. The section concludes with a recap of helpful Excel shortcuts.

This unit introduces the basics of Microsoft Word, including navigation, fonts, styles, bullet points, and keyboard shortcuts.
- Inserting Objects
Microsoft Word allows you to easily integrate elements such as tables and pictures into text documents. This unit demonstrates how to insert and format these objects effectively.
- Controlling Page Appearance
In this section, we explore how to enhance the visual appeal of your Word documents. Topics include adjusting headers and footers, modifying margins, and adding page numbers.
- Preparing to Publish a Document
In the final unit, we show you how to polish and publish your document. This includes checking spelling and grammar and preparing your document for printing or sharing.
Obtaining your certificate
You will need to pass a multiple-choice exam at the end of the course in order to gain your accreditation. Once passed, we will send your official certificate by email.
