Lists and explains the eight core principles that underpin safe, appropriate medicines handling in all care settings.
- Policies and Procedures
Covers medicines policies, what constitutes controlled drugs (CDs), special arrangements for CDs, administration and record-keeping requirements, disposal processes, and handling of non-prescribed CDs.
- Disposal
Explains correct disposal of excess or unwanted medicines and the importance of accurate recording within social care services.
- Effective Communication
Emphasises communication with GP surgeries and pharmacies, discusses medicine volumes and stock control, and details correct storage for different medicine types.
- Care Settings
Outlines policies, procedures and best practice for handling and administering medicines across settings, including domiciliary care and day services.
- Help with Medicines
Defines safe administration to maximise benefit and minimise harm, encourages self-administration where possible, and explains when and how care workers should provide assistance.

You will need to pass a multiple-choice exam at the end of the course in order to gain your accreditation. Once passed, we will send your official certificate by email.
