The course is split into bite-sized modules and units, which contain narrated slides to take you through the content in a simple manner. Candidates will undertake an online multiple-choice assessment and will receive a certificate if successful (any certificates from an official awarding body are sent to you via email).

Module 1: The History and Production of Wine

    In the course introduction, we provide guidance on how the e-learning works and outline the structure of the course, preparing learners for what to expect in the following modules.

  • The History of Wine

    This unit explores the origins of wine, tracing its development from ancient times through to the present day. It also highlights how wine production has evolved globally and the diversity of wines found around the world today.

  • The Production of Wine

    Here we delve into the details of wine production, exploring the different styles of wine and how varying production methods influence flavour, aroma, and character.

Module 2: The Varieties of Wine
  • Styles of Wine

    We begin Module 2 by examining the nine main styles of wine, discussing their key features and how they differ in taste, texture, and body.

  • Grape Varietals

    This unit focuses on viticulture—the art and business of growing grapes. We explore the most popular grape varietals, why some are more profitable than others, and how grape selection impacts the quality and characteristics of the final product.

  • Place of Origin

    To conclude Module 2, we explore the importance of a wine’s place of origin and how regional climates, soils, and traditions contribute to the unique qualities of each wine.

Module 3: Serving Wine
  • Storing and Preparing Wine

    We begin the final module by learning how to store wine properly to maintain its quality and how to prepare it for serving at the ideal temperature and condition.

  • Tasting, Recommending & Pairing

    This unit focuses on the art of wine tasting, identifying aromas and flavours, and developing confidence in recommending wines. It also covers effective wine and food pairing techniques to enhance dining experiences.

  • Serving and Glassware

    In the final unit, we cover how to serve wine correctly, the appropriate glassware for each type of wine, and provide step-by-step guidance for opening and pouring wine professionally.

Obtaining your certificate

You will need to pass a multiple-choice exam at the end of the course in order to gain your accreditation. Once passed, we will send your official certificate by email.
