Our online course explains the six components of the industry, introduces typical roles and responsibilities and provides an introduction to training in those all important customer skills. The course also explores sustainable tourism; something that is vital to the future of the industy.

The syllabus of this online course is designed to offer an introduction to those considering a career in the Travel and Tourism Industry. The course will provide an overview of the different types of work within tourism and explain how the different businesses rely on each other. In addition the course provides universally applicable understanding of common industry terms, covers skills such as customer service and explores the topical subject of tourism and sustainability. Candidates will undertake an online multiple-choice assessment and will receive a certificate if successful (any certificates from an official awarding body are sent to you via email).

    In this introduction, we address the question: what is travel and tourism? We then explore a widely used overview of the industry, which groups different activities into six core components.

  • Key Components of the Tourist Industry

    This section examines in detail the six key components of the tourist industry. This framework groups different activities into common categories, such as Tour Operators, Accommodation, and Transport Providers.

  • Promoting Travel and Tourism

    As holidays are typically a desirable part of life rather than a necessity, promoting travel and tourism effectively is essential. In this module, we focus on the 'Tourism Product' using a common marketing framework known as the Four Ps. We explore how products meet customer needs and influence decision-making factors.

  • Impact and Sustainability of Tourism

    The impact of human activity on the world around us is a growing concern, and it is increasingly important to consider sustainability within tourism. This section provides an overview of different types of impacts and explores strategies for promoting sustainable tourism practices.

  • Working in the Tourism Industry

    This section explores careers in the tourism industry, outlining typical roles, responsibilities, and expectations. It also covers the importance of customer service skills and their role in ensuring a positive tourist experience.
