Course syllabus

Module 1: Volunteering
  • Course Introduction

This introductory unit explains the subject and outlines the structure of the course. It also provides guidance on how to get the most out of your learning and how to prepare for the short multiple-choice assessment at the end.

  • The Benefits of Volunteering

We begin by exploring the benefits of volunteering. With most people volunteering at some point in their lives, we look at the motivations behind why individuals are willing to give up their time to help others.

  • Finding the Right Role

To get the most out of volunteering and maximise your enjoyment, it’s important to find a role that suits you. This unit guides you through considering what skills and qualities you can offer, what you want to gain in return, and any limitations that might affect the roles you can take on. Being honest and realistic is key!

  • Securing a Volunteering Position

Building on the previous unit, this section explains how to secure the right volunteering opportunity—not just any role. The process is similar to applying for paid employment, but there are some important differences in how both you and the recruiter approach it.

  • How to Succeed as a Volunteer

Success as a volunteer can mean different things depending on your personal goals—whether that’s gaining experience for your CV or contributing long-term to a cause you care about. In this unit, we explore the common factors that lead to success in volunteering and how to make the most of your experience.

Obtaining your certificate

You will need to pass a multiple-choice exam at the end of the course in order to gain your accreditation. Once passed, we will send your official certificate by email.
